(GSM) – Tottenham Hotspur have denied making a bid for Palermo players Simon Kjaer and Edinson Cavani following the Serie A club’s claim to have accepted a £28.4 million offer.
Palermo president Maurizio Zamparini recently claimed that the players were heading to White Hart Lane after Spurs met their asking price.
Spurs boss Harry Redknapp has been tracking the two players all summer and declared his interest to Palermo earlier this month, leading Zamparini to declare they would only be allowed to leave for a combined fee of £28.4 million.
Werder Bremen were thought to be leading the race to sign Kjaer, while Cavani had already spoken of his desire to lead the line for Internazionale
“Tottenham have bid €35million, an offer we cannot refuse, seeing as the two players have both said they want to leave,” Zamparini told Sky Italia television. “We will reinvest the money for these players. The midfield is my biggest concern, whereas in defence and attack we are fairly covered.”
However, Spurs have rebuffed the claim stating that no bid was tabled for the duo.
“Palermo’s claims are inaccurate. We have not bid for these players,” said a spokesman for Tottenham.
Palermo have also now denied claims of a bid. “As of today, Tottenham have not made any official offer to Palermo,” director of sport Walter Sabatini told Reterete24.
“There are rumours coming out of England, but there is nothing concrete.”
