Tottenham Hotspur have held talks with the representatives of Bruno Fernandes of Sporting Lisbon, according to James Ducker of The Telegraph.
The central midfielder has been linked with a number of clubs, including both the Reds and Blues of Manchester, Liverpool and Atletico Madrid. Manchester United had emerged as his likeliest destination, and Ducker believes the talks his agent held with Spurs may force their hand on the matter.
Spurs, meanwhile, still have strong interest in Giovani Lo Celso of Real Betis and will be looking to get at least one of those deals over the line this summer, fearing that the six-year stint of Christian Eriksen with the club may be coming to its end.
Fernandes’ agent, Miguel Pinho, apparently met with United a few months ago, but the transfer of the Portuguese international has now taken a back seat to the club’s pursuit of Aaron Wan-Bissaka of Crystal Palace, which so far hasn’t been going as smoothly as they would have liked. Therefore, Spurs getting involved could truly make United take notice and start working on the Fernandes deal in earnest.
