Tottenham Hotspur have entered the race to sign Gedson Fernandes of Benfica, according to the Mirror.
The midfielder has already been linked with Manchester United and Liverpool, but now the report claims that the north London club are much more serious in their intentions than either of England’s two most successful clubs in history. Fernandes’ agents have already met with potential suitors in England last week.
Spurs made no signings at all in the last two transfer windows, and manager Mauricio Pochettino has been promised funds for significant signings this summer by club president Daniel Levy. Victor Wanyama, Kieran Trippier and Serge Aurier are all apparently likely to leave, and the futures of Toby Alderweireld and Christian Eriksen are far from certain.
The 20-year-old midfielder, who made his first two senior international appearances for Portugal this season, is willing to give serious consideration to joining Spurs with the club having reached the Champions League final.
