Spurs join race for Rodriguez

Tottenham Hotspur have joined the race to sign Southampton striker Jay Rodriguez, according to the Daily Star.

Arsenal and Liverpool have also been linked with a move for the 24 year old, who scored fifteen Premier goals for the Saints last season, though Spurs may hold the advantage with Mauricio Pochettino’s switch to White Hart Lane expected imminently.

Daniel Sturridge and Wayne Rooney were the only Englishmen to score more top flight goals than Rodrgiuez during the 2013/14 campaign, and he was in the running for selection for Roy Hodgson’s squad for this summer’s World Cup finals in Brazil until he suffered a cruciate knee ligament injury during his side’s 4-1 lost to Manchester City last month.

Rodriguez, who has a year to run on his current deal, moved to St Mary’s from Burnley in the summer of 2012, and so far has scored twenty-six goals in seventy-six appearances in all competitions.
