Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Carlo Cudicini was taken to hospital on Thursday with what ambulance staff said were “life-changing injuries” after crashing his motorbike.
The Italian shot-stopper hit a car at around 1030GMT in Walthamstow, east London and was then taken to hospital for treatment on what Tottenham later said were wrist and pelvic injuries.
A spokesman for London’s Metropolitan police said the ambulance service and an emergency helicopter had attended the scene and found the 36-year-old motorcyclist suffering from injuries described by medics as “possibly life-changing”.
“He has been taken to an east London hospital for further assessment and treatment,” the spokesman said.
In a statement, Tottenham Hotspurs said: “Carlo Cudicini has fractured his wrists and injured his pelvis after being involved in a road accident this morning.
“The 36-year-old Italian goalkeeper has been admitted to hospital and undergone scans under the supervision of club medical staff.
“The club will update supporters on Carlo as soon as there is any further information.”
The woman driver of the car and her child passenger did not need hospital treatment.
Cudicini has been in English football for 10 years, having transfered to Spurs from London rivals Chelsea in January.
