Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Tom Huddlestone has joined Stoke City on loan until the end of the season, according to winger Jermaine Pennant.
Huddlestone was omitted from the Spurs squad which lost 2-1 at Newcastle on Saturday and appears surplus to the requirements of new Tottenham manager Andre Villas-Boas.
Huddlestone’s last competitive game for Spurs came against Manchester City in August 2011, with an ankle injury restricting him to just two appearances last season.
The former Derby County player will now bid to regain form and fitness at the Britannia Stadium.
Stoke’s Pennant revealed on Twitter: “Walked in (to) training and got a shock … saw my friend Tom Huddlestone. On loan till end of season.
“Yes it’s true he’s going to have a medical later if it’s all good we have got him till the end of the season.”
It is thought any deal to take Huddlestone to Stoke will include a clause which could see the midfielder recalled to White Hart Lane in January.
He would become Stoke’s third signing going into the 2012/13 campaign, following the arrivals of Jamie Ness from Rangers and Michael Kightly from Wolves.
