Premier League giants Tottenham Hotspur and French Ligue 1 outfit Lyon are among clubs keeping close tabs on Chateauroux striker Jean-Philippe Mateta, L’Equipe can reveal.
The 19-year-old has already managed to catch the eye of Europe’s top clubs despite playing in France’s third division and it will not be long before he leaves his current employers for greener pastures.
Lyon emerged as the favourites to secure his signature during the summer transfer window, but they eventually failed to lure the youngster to Parc OL, having had a bid in excess of €1 million rejected by Chateauroux.
The National League side wanted the player to be loaned back to them after completing a move to Lyon, but les Gones were not satisfied with such an arrangement.
It is important to note that Lyon are not the only side interested in Mateta, with Tottenham, Fiorentina, Montpellier and Rennes also keen.
Mateta has so far scored 15 goals in 26 competitive outings for Chateauroux, so no wonder he is currently in high demand.
