Spurs make Maddison priority

Tottenham Hotspur have decided to make James Maddison of Leicester City their top transfer priority as they seek a long-term replacement for Christian Eriksen, according to Mirror.

The Denmark international has been a Spurs player for six years, and one their most important ones too, but it seems his time in north London is about to come to and end. His contract expires at the end of the season, and he came very close to leaving this summer with heavy interest reported from Real Madrid and Manchester United. There are no indications of a new contract being signed, and he will be free to talk to clubs outside England in January.

Maddison has been linked with United himself, as well as Champions League holders Liverpool, but Leicester would not be willing to let the talented 22-year-old leave cheap, just like any other of their key players. They made it very clear when they banked in a world-record defender transfer fee for Harry Maguire, who moved to Old Trafford this summer.
