According to the Evening Standard, Tottenham Hotspur would be willing to part ways withe Christian Eriksen for less than £40 million in January.
The Denmark international has reportedly informed the club and head coach Jose Mourinho of his wish to leave, rejecting any offer of a new deal flat out. His decision has prompted club president Daniel Levy to push for a sale in the winter transfer window, as he aims to avoid losing the player for nothing when his current contract expires next summer.
Eriksen has mostly been linked with Real Madrid as a potential long-term replacement for the 34-year-old Luka Modric, also a former Spurs man, but Manchester United and Juventus have been mentioned too. Bayern Munich were also reportedly looking in on his situation, just in case they decide against activating the option to sign Philippe Coutinho from Barcelona on a permanent basis following the Brazilian’s season-long loan.
But despite the quoted price being very reasonable for a player of such quality, the possibility of signing him for free in the summer, with a pre-contract agreement potentially in place in January, might act as a deterrent to any potential suitor when it comes to signing the attacking midfielder next month.
