Tottenham Hotspur have submitted a bit for Giovani Lo Celso of Real Betis, The Telegraph have reported.
The 23-year-old was brought to Europe by Paris Saint-Germain, who signed him from Argentinian side Rosario Central in the summer of 2016. He spent two years with the French champions before joining Betis, initially on loan with an option to buy. The option was triggered this April for a reported fee of €22 million and he is now a full-time Betis player.
However, it seems the La Liga side have been offered a chance to almost triple their money. The bid Spurs reportedly sent their way amounts to £53 million (just under €60 million). The north Londoners’ record signing has so far been defender Davinson Sanchez, for whom they paid £42 million, which means Lo Celso potentially arriving would break it. Spurs have been rather idle in the transfer market recently, with their last signing to date being Lucas Moura back in January 2018.
But it remains to be seen whether Betis will accept the offer, given that there is interest from other clubs as well and that the reported buyout clause set in the contract of the Argentina international is £88 million.
