Jan Vertonghen has withdrawn from talks over a new contract with Tottenham Hotspur, according to the Daily Star.
The Belgium international was on the verge of competing negotiations with the North London club but now discussions are over.
He has four years remaining on his current deal, though the breakdown in discussions over his long term future has created speculation that he may be about to move away.
The 27 year old has played just two from five league games so far this season under Maurico Pochettino, while he has also played twice in the Europa League as well as the full ninety minutes in last night’s come-from-behind victory over Championship leaders Nottingham Forest in the third round of the Capital One Cup.
Spurs next face North London rivals Arsenal at the Emirates in Saturday’s late kick-off in the Premier League, with the away win priced at a generous 7/2.
