Harry Kane was close to joining Manchester City last summer, with the Premier League champions reportedly willing to pay well over £100 million for his services, but Tottenham Hotspur chairman Daniel Levy refused to do a deal under any circumstances and the England captain remained in North London. Speaking to the press after Kane’s two goals sunk his team on Saturday, City boss Pep Guardiola said his club’s interest in the striker was a thing of the past.
In an attempt to ward off City’s interest last year, Spurs offered Kane a new contract last summer, but Kane refused to sign it. According to David Ornstein of The Athletic, the 28-year-old now wants to see which direction the club takes from here, before making his decision about recommitting his future. And with his current deal running until the end of 2023-24, Spurs are in no hurry either. They will wait to learn his mind before making him a new offer.
