Spurs warned to be wary of Bolton gatecrashers

Tottenham forward Eidur Gudjohnsen expects his former club Bolton to be in the mood to spoil the party at White Hart Lane this weekend.

Spurs are leading the race for fourth place in the Premier League ahead of Saturday?s clash and victory for Harry Redknapp?s men would edge them closer to a Champions League qualifier next season.

Gudjohnsen, 31, was at the Reebok Stadium for two seasons earlier in his career and knows Owen Coyle?s side will be motivated despite having already secured their top flight status for another season.

“Bolton will be professional,” said the Iceland international. “There might not be a lot to play for them but there is still pride in playing for Bolton Wanderers and finishing the season on a high.

“Their ambition is finishing their season on a professional note and trying to spoil our party. We have to make sure they won’t do that and play like we did against them in the cup game earlier this year.

“They’ve done well to get out of the relegation places and I have affection for them so I’m happy they will be in the Premier League next season and I’ll be happy to send them home with zero points.”

Victory for Spurs means they would stay ahead of Aston Villa and Manchester City ahead of their trip to City next week, which could be the decisive game in the race for fourth.

Gudjohnsen has won a Champions League title with Barcelona and has experience at clubs with European pedigree such as Chelsea and Monaco, and he feels Spurs can thrive in that sort of company.

“Mainly it’s mental,” he added. “It’s that belief to be strong enough characters and look at ourselves as big enough players and a big enough team to take that last step, to get in and stay at that fourth place.

“There is a lovely prize at the end of it, getting into the Champions League play-offs to join the ranks for the top clubs in Europe.”

Gudjohnsen would want to stay if they did hold on.

He added: “We’ll see where it takes us. Going into the last three games all I have to concentrate on is helping the team and we’ll see what the future holds.”

Bolton skipper Kevin Davies insists his side are determined to finish as high as possible and will not be taking the trip to Spurs lightly.

Davies is also in contention to be the club?s highest scorer this season. He is currently on eight with Matt Taylor, while Ivan Klasnic and Gary Cahill have seven each.

Davies said: “We’ve been having a bit of a laugh about it. We’ve been trying to convince Matt Taylor that his second one at Stoke was an own goal. Gary Cahill came in at half-time on Saturday and we were telling him that he had to score as well.

“I’d liked to have scored more goals, obviously, but it’s creeping up towards double figures which is what I aimed for.

“There has been a lot of banter which is good fun, but it’s all about getting points in our last two games and finishing on a high.

“We’ve already had two draws against Tottenham this season so another one of our targets is to finish the season on an unbeaten run, like we did a couple of years ago.”

Bolton boss Coyle is already thinking ahead to next season, and he wants to secure his targets before the World Cup starts.

“If there are players in the World Cup that we would like, and would serve us well then, if we’ve done our job properly, we will have signed them before they get to the tournament,” said Coyle.

“If they go to the World Cup and do well then those prices will be inflated.”
