Spurs worthy of UEFA Champions League qualification

Despite having tallied just one away win in the English Premier League in 2012, Harry Redknapp’s Tottenham Hotspur are fully deserving of finishing in the top four in England’s top-flight.

Spurs can seal their place in next season’s UEFA Champions League with a win in their final game against Fulham at White Hart Lane.

Tottenham won the reverse fixture at Craven Cottage way back on 6 November 2011 by a score of 3-1, and will surely fancy their chances of tallying three points on the final day of the season.

Fulham have a dismal away record, 4-5-9, and have netted just 12 away goals in the Premier League this season. Only Stoke City, who have scored 11 goals away from home, have a worse goal tally.

In addition, the visitors have nothing to play for since they have already sealed a top-half finish, while Spurs essentially have everything to play for.

Subsequently, expect Spurs to dominate possession and be the bosses when Fulham visit White Hart Lane on 13 May.

“We have do everything it takes to win the last game and we’ll see what happens from there,” Emmanuel Adebayor told Spurs’ official website.

“Arsenal are playing at West Brom, that’s tough for them. We’re playing our last game at home and we couldn’t ask for more than that.

“It will be an amazing game, the fans will be with us and hopefully we’ll get what we deserve, and that’s to finish in the top four.”

Adebayor, who has been an outstanding signing for Spurs this season, is spot on in my opinion.

Although Tottenham fully deserve their place in next season’s Champions League, Newcastle United and Chelsea will surely feel that they have done enough to qualify for the world’s biggest club football competition.

At the moment, Newcastle United are on 65 points, which has them sitting in fifth place in the table.

Meanwhile, the Blues are on 61 points and have a game in hand over the Magpies.

Newcastle’s final game of the 2011-12 Premier League campaign will be played at Goodison Park, where the Toon will face Everton on the final day of the season.

Chelsea remaining fixtures are away to Liverpool (8 May) and at home versus Blackburn Rovers (13 May).

Of course, the Blues are also scheduled to take on Bayern Munich in the 2012 UEFA Champions League final at Allianz Arena on 19 May.

Knowing how much Abramovich wants to win the Champions League, I would assume that Di Matteo is putting all his eggs in the UCL basket.

After all, his job may depend on winning the elusive Champions League trophy.

Which Premier League clubs, aside from Manchester City and Manchester United, will be playing in the Champions League next season?
