Darijo Srna believes that Luka Modric could become a contender for the Ballon d’Or if he leaves England for a move to Spain.
Speculation over the Tottenham midfielder’s future has been rife after a series of excellent displays for Croatia but his international team-mate suggested that he should opt for a move to La Liga, rather than remaining in the Premier League.
“Modric is a great friend of mine and an outstanding football player,” Srna told L’Equipe.
“I know that Manchester United and Chelsea want him, but playing in Spain would allow for further development of his talent and I believe that he could win the Ballon d’Or.
“In the Spanish league he could be much brighter, because in England it is a more physical game and it is difficult for his features to come out.
“I respect that Tottenham have excellent players, but they are never going to win the Premier League.”
