St.Etienne sign defender Marchal

AS Saint- Etienne have announced the signing of defender Sylvain Marchal from Lorient. The 30 year old joins ASSE on a free transfer and has signed a three year contract with Les Verts.

Langres born Marchal started off his career with Metz. Towards the latter stages of his Metz career, he was loaned out to LB Châteauroux and eventually managed to move away from Les Grenats by signing for Lorient. He was part of the Lorient side that won promotion to Ligue 1 in the 05/06 season.

Marchal averaged around 30 games a season for Lorient and was red carded only once in his time for the club. Lorient finished 7th in Ligue 1 during the 09/10 season under Marchal’s leadership.
