Augsburg defender Konstantinos Stafylidis has apologised to Breel Embolo after breaking the Schalke forward’s ankle in a tackle.
Switzerland international Embolo could be set to miss the rest of the season after sustaining the injury midway through the first half of Saturday’s 1-1 Bundesliga draw between the teams.
And Stafylidis, who was booked for the challenge, was quick to offer his condolences to the 19-year-old, who joined Schalke from Basel in June.
“I want to apologize to Breel Embolo and FC Schalke 04,” the Greece international stated on his official Instagram account.
“My idea is to always play aggressive and go for the ball, but I have never injured any player on purpose.
“I have big respect for my opponents and football. That is the reason why I never play unfairly. I wish you a fast recovery because football needs players with your quality.”
