German newspaper Bild understands that Hamburg may have to sell one of Rafael van der Vaart or Rene Adler this summer.
Despite selling star forward Heung-Min Son to Bayer Leverkusen, the Imtech Arena outfit find themselves in a very difficult financial situation.
They aim to lower the wage budget from €48m to less than €40m, and they plan to do so by selling the likes of Gojko Kacar, Marcus Berg, Slobodan Rajkovic, Robert Tesche, Paul Scharner and Michael Mancienne.
However, with clubs showing little interest in the aforementioned players, they might have to resort to plan B and cash in on either Rafael van der Vaart or Rene Adler.
The experienced footballers have been in great form since arriving at the club last summer, but they could be sacrificed to improve the poor financial situation.
Both van der Vaart and Adler are in high demand at the moment and they still have quite a few admirers among Europe’s top clubs.
