Stefano Mauri signs new Lazio deal

Italian international Stefano Mauri has signed a new contract with Lazio, the Serie A giants have revealed.

The 32-year-old had just over a year left on his previous deal, but has now signed a contract until June 2014 with the Biancocelesti.

Lazio announced the deal on club’s official website on Wednesday evening, confirming that Mauri had signed a one-year extension.

The influential midfielder joined the Biancocelesti from Udinese in January 2006 and has since developed into a key figure at Olimpico.

Mauri missed most of the current season due to a serious injury, but he has recently resumed training and is expected to return into action in the coming weeks.

The experienced midfielder is considered an important part of the Italy national team and he is expected to be named in Italy’s Euro 2012 squad should he manage to prove his fitness.

Mauri made his national team debut in 2004 and has since featured in 11 games for the Azzurri.
