With the chance to climb back into the Champions League positions, Roma will travel to a struggling Stadio Marc’Antonio Bentegodi on Friday night.

Starting with the hosts, while Chievo might have managed to pick up a 2-2 draw against Empoli last weekend, they still remain rock bottom of the Serie A table. Now chasing a nine-point buffer from climbing out of the drop zone, Domenico Di Carlo’s side are still looking for their first win of the New Year. On a run of form that has now seen them pick up just one win in any competition this season, it will be Chievo’s continued defensive issues most concerning Di Carlo. Still holding the worse defensive record in Italy’s top-tier, Friday’s hosts have also conceded 12 goals in just their last three outings.

As for the visitors, while Roma may have picked up a 1-1 draw against Milan last weekend, Eusebio Di Francesco will be calling for more from his squad. Shipping seven against Fiorentina and crashing out of the Cup last week, last year’s Champions League semi-finalists have failed to win any of their last three. However, with the chance to climb back into the top-four, one man who will be looking to exploit Chievo’s recent defensive issues will be the in-form Stephan El Shaarawy. The 26-year-old has now found the net five times in just his last six Serie A appearances.
