Fiorentina forward Stevan Jovetic has signed a new contract at Artemio Franchi until June 2016.
The Montenegro international was the subject of intense transfer speculations this summer, with Manchester United, Chelsea and Arsenal being mentioned as possible destinations.
However, the player eventually opted to pledge his future to Viola and has now extended his contract until June 2016.
“We agreed a new contract with Jovetic and the lad proved he really wants to continue here in Florence. We had a brief chat this morning, even if our directors worked all week,” Fiorentina president Andrea Della Valle told club’s official website.
“At least for the next five years, we’ll see him in the Viola jersey. It was the news I wanted to give to all our fans. The lad wanted this and so did we.
“After a difficult year in which the club was close to him, we want to begin again from Jovetic. It’s an important sign.”
