Schalke coach Huub Stevens is hoping his side learn from their mistakes when they travel to Borussia Monchengladbach on Saturday.
A tempestuous Bundesliga affair between the two sides in December saw Jermaine Jones and Klaas-Jan Huntelaar both receive their marching orders, with the former picking up a six-match retrospective ban for a vicious stamp on Marco Reus.
Lucien Favre’s Gladbach won the clash 3-1, and Stevens feels his side will have no chance in the rematch if they put in a repeat performance.
“I hope that we will not make the same mistakes again and that we finish the game with 11 players,” Stevens told Bild.
“We must be patient and well organised to defend as a team, in order to avoid Gladbach’s quick counter attacking.”
Despite Schalke dropping behind Borussia Dortmund in the title race last weekend, Stevens does not believe the loss was a disaster to his side’s ambitions.
“The season is not over after that,” he said.
“There are still 13 games that need to be decided.”
Schalke are third on the table, one point and one place better off than fourth-placed Gladbach.
