Stoke City welcome the Premier League champions to the Britannia Stadium this afternoon, and are hoping to pile on the misery on Jose Mourinho’ s struggling side. Both teams are languishing in the bottom-half, but Chelsea are closer to the drop zone than the top-half ahead of today’s meeting, and their poor away form could see them coming unstuck.

Stoke City saw their three-game winning run in the Premier League ended by defeat to Watford and a goalless draw against Newcastle. Their home form hasn’t been as solid as it was in the past either, but have only lost one game in their last six overall. Unfortunately, the Potters don’t have the best record against Chelsea in the top-flight, winning only once in their 14 Premier League meetings, but the form of the visitors could see Stoke finally getting one over the Londoners.

Chelsea are having one of the worst seasons in their Premier League history, languishing in the bottom-half of the table with just 11 points from as many games. They have lost three of their last four games in the division, most recently suffering a rare home defeat against Liverpool. Chelsea have been woeful away from home this season, winning just once on the road in five.

Their defensive record has been the biggest worry, with Jose Mourinho’s side having shipped two goals per game on average, so Stoke stand a chance of coming out on top if they set out to pen their opponents in.
