(GSM) – Stoke City have completed the protracted signing of Asmir Begovic from Premier League rivals Portsmouth for a fee believed to be £3.25million.

The Potters appeared to have missed out on the Bosnian keeper earlier on Monday, with Pompey believed to have snubbed an offer from Tony Pulis’ side.

However, a deal has now been pushed through and Begovic has penned a four-and-a-half year contract at the Britannia Stadium.

The agreement went through shortly before the 5pm deadline, with the 22-year-old left sweating on where his long-term future would lie.

All parties are now delighted to have seen the switch completed, with Pulis of the opinion that he has landed one of the most promising keepers in the English top flight.

“Asmir is someone we have been tracking for some time and we believe that potentially he is the best young keeper in the country,” he told the club’s official website.
