Storrie rubishes James reports

Portsmouth chief executive Peter Storrie has described rumours linking David James with a move away in January as “a load of rubbish”.

The Pompey goalkeeper was the subject of an enquiry from Tottenham in the summer, with Carlo Cudicini reportedly offered in exchange.

However, former manager Harry Redknapp’s advances were politely rejected despite James admitting he was unsettled on the South Coast as a result of the club’s precarious financial position.

The 39-year-old was even linked with a shock move to Manchester United on Tuesday, but Fratton Park chief executive Storrie has rubbished the claims.

“It’s a load of rubbish, it really is,” he told The News.

“David is under contract and it will be staying that way. He’s happy and we are happy – David’s going absolutely nowhere.

“We don’t need to sell him and we have no interest in doing so. People should ignore these rumours, that’s all they are.”
