According to Marca, Cristhian Stuani is closing in on an extension with Spanish club Girona. The 31 year old has been with the team since joining last year from Middlesbrough, and since then he’s been enjoying arguably the best spell of his career. His first season was strong but he appears to be as good if not better this time around, which has caused even more heads to turn than they did during the summer.
Stuani was initially linked with a move to French side Marseille, who were said to be on the verge of activating his €15 million buyout clause. Girona are fixated on ensuring that they can keep him at the club for as long as possible, and they’re actually interested in extending his current contract so that it runs out in 2021. His salary would also be increased, with his buyout clause being raised to more than €20 million as he continues to enjoy the latter stages of his career.
