Stuart Pearce would be good choice for next England boss

Current England boss Fabio Capello will leave his post after Euro 2012 (assuming we qualify!)

And the English FA will have to start considering candidates very soon.

They have already stated that that the next England boss will be English. That doesn’t leave a lot of quality candidates.

Candidates

Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp is currently one of the favourites for the job.

Redknapp has done a superb job at Tottenham, but his dodgy dealing is famous and maybe that reputation could mean the FA will look elsewhere.

I don’t know how anybody can even mention Blackburn boss Sam Allardyce as a candidate. Every team he has managed has played long ball football. This style simply wouldn’t suit modern day international football. Spain’s recent success proves that passing the ball is the way to success.

Then there is Sunderland boss Steve Bruce. Bruce has only ever managed clubs who are looking to finish midtable or survive relegation. He has never been considered good enough to manage a top side.

Another option would be Martin O’Neill. O’Neill is a good boss but isn’t English. I think he would have been a good choice for next England boss. There is a man in the current set-up who could be an ideal candidate in 2012 and that’s Stuart Pearce.

Experience

Pearce’s record at Manchester City was decent considering his two-year stint came before the club were mega-rich. He kept them ticking over and out of relegation trouble. He is current the England under-21s boss and also part of Capello’s backroom staff.

Pearce himself doesn’t feel he is ready to take the job. He told Sky Sports: “At this moment in time I feel I don’t have enough experience to be the England manager. I enjoy what I do, being in charge of the Under 21s and having the experience with the senior squad,” said Pearce.

“That experience is getting enhanced day by day. In a year’s time I will be a better manager than I am today, that’s for sure.”

He is gaining more experience by being part of the full setup while still successfully guiding England’s youngsters. He guided the under-21’s to the final of last year’s European Championships only to be beaten by a Germany team containing four of Germany’s World Cup heroes.

Passion

Stuart Pearce is one of the most passionate Englishmen I can think of. Every time he played he showed amazing passion for his country. He also showed tremendous courage during his England career. I’m sure he would give some really rousing team talks.

True he is already involved in the England squad but he’s not the main man. According to reports Capello listens to few people, so I’m sure that Pearce doesn’t have much say in the current set-up. He would definitely show more passion than Capello.

Choice

I believe that Stuart Pearce will be a good choice for the job when Fabio Capello’s contract runs out in 2012. Pearce will have improved as a boss by then. I also believe that because of the passion he has shown for his country as a player the England fans will give him more time to succeed.

Would Stuart Pearce be a good choice for next England boss?
