The Daily Mirror is reporting that Liverpool have opened talks with Chelsea striker Daniel Sturridge and will try to secure his services in the January transfer window.
The England international has been frustrated at the Blues this campaign in the English Premier League and he could be about to solve Liverpool’s problems going forward.
Luis Suarez is the only recognised man for Brendan Rodgers to call upon up front and he now wants to ease the pressure on his number seven.
It is likely that the Reds will need to splash the cash to land Sturridge though as Chelsea currently value him at £15 million.
Rodgers wants to do his business early in the January window though to avoid a repeat of the summer, as he was unable to bring in new faces and had a squad that looked as though it was lacking any strength in depth.
However, with Fernando Torres’ future coming under some doubt at Chelsea, they may not be prepared to let Sturridge go – especially as the European Champions do not have a great deal of forwards themselves.
If Roberto Di Matteo brings in a few new attackers in the New Year though, then the former Manchester City man could be on his way.
