Uruguay’s four-goal hero from Friday, Luis Suarez, will miss out on the Celeste’s encounter with Italy on Tuesday.
Despite recovering from a minor muscle strain in the 4-0 World Cup qualifying win over Chile, coach Oscar Tabarez has decided not to risk the Liverpool striker.
Suarez was in sensational form against Chile, scoring all four goals to put Uruguay at the top of the Conmebol standings for the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.
Tabarez, however, confirmed on Monday in Rome that Suarez would not play a part in the next fixture, as the discomfort which forced him off the Centenario field early proved enough to convince the ex-Milan trainer not to play him in this friendly.
Suarez’s replacement is Malaga striker Sebastian Fernandez, who will partner Edison Cavani up front.
Fernandez’s entrance is one of three changes made for the Italy match.
Benfica’s Maxi Pereira starts on the right of midfield in place of Alvaro Gonzalez, while Porto’s Cristian Rodriguez gets the nod ahead of Gaston Ramirez.
Uruguay: Muslera; Caceres, Lugano, Godin, A. Pereira; M. Pereira, Arevalo Rios, Perez, Rodriguez; Cavani, Fernandez.
