Luis Suarez has revealed that an offer to move to Premier League club Liverpool was too good for him to turn down.

Suarez, who completed a medical with the Merseyside club on Saturday, is on the verge of completing a 23-million-pound move to Anfield from Dutch giants Ajax.

The Uruguay striker, who starred at the 2010 World Cup with three goals in his country’s run to the semi-finals, will become the Reds’ first major signing since the club’s new owners, New England Sports Ventures, took over in October.

And the 24-year-old believes that a switch to the five-time European champions is ideal for his career.

“I am happy,” Suarez told Ajax TV, adding: “It is important for anybody to go to such a big club. It is a great opportunity for me.”

“It is a beautiful club. Everybody wants to play there. They always play Champions League or Europa League and belong to the top four clubs in the Premier League.”

While admitting he had been frustrated by the lengthy negotiations, Suarez confirmed that the deal is set to go through.

“It has been difficult, a lot of negotiation,” Suarez said. “Difficult for me as it concerns my future. But yesterday afternoon [Saturday] I heard that everything was agreed.”
