Suarez signs new long-term Liverpool contract

The Telegraph understands that Luis Suarez has become the highest paid player in Liverpool’s history after putting pen to paper on a new long term contract with the club, and in doing so ending months of speculation regarding his future.

The Uruguay international, who was strongly linked with a move away from Anfield during the summer following a string of controversies during him time on Merseyside, has been in fine form this season, scoring seventeen goals in just eleven Premier League appearances.

There had been talk of a potential move away in January, though the 26 year old has committed himself to the five-time European Champions until 2018 in a deal worth £200,000 per week.

The former Ajax man will lead the line for Brendan Rodgers’ men against Cardiff City in tomorrow’s lunchtime kick-off in the Premier League, where three points will see Liverpool return to top spot ahead of Arsenal’s match against Chelsea on Monday evening.
