Manchester United have reportedly identified three main transfer targets for the upcoming summer transfer window.
According to radio station TalkSport, the 20-time English champions are looking to bolster their defence and midfield. Crystal Palace’s Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Napoli’s Kalidou Koulibaly are the targets chosen to strengthen the back line, while Barcelona’s Ivan Rakitić is deemed a valuable addition to their ranks in the middle of the pitch.
The 21-year-old Palace fullback is deemed among the best young talents in the Premier League, and with United choosing not to trigger a contract extension for 33-year-old Antonio Valencia, the arrival of Wan-Bissaka would represent a significant rejuvenation of the right-back position.
That United lack a commanding presence in the heart of their defence is no secret, and they’ve therefore picked Koulibaly, who certainly fits that description, to provide such influence. Both Wan-Bissaka and especially Koulibaly, however, won’t come cheap.
Meanwhile, it might be slightly easier to prise away Saturday’s El Clasico winner Ivan Rakitić from Barcelona. The Croatian’s 26th-minute strike sank Real Madrid at the Santiago Bernabeu, but with the arrival of Frenkie de Jong in the summer and the Catalans looking to sign Adrien Rabiot as well, the 30-year-old might find his game-time at Camp Nou very limited next season.
