Sunday’s EPL recap; Previewing Liverpool v Tottenham Hotspur

After an eccentric weekend in the English Premier League, Liverpool v Tottenham are scheduled to clash on Monday night at Anfield.

But before we get to previewing Liverpool v Spurs, let’s recap Sunday’s Premier League action.

The Newcastle United v Aston Villa fixture lived up to expectations, with two Demba’s scoring for the Magpies and Robbie Keane bagging one for Villa.

Demba Ba opened the scoring for Newcastle in the 30th minute after getting the better of Villa center-back Richard Dunne.

Robbie Keane volleyed home the equaliser following a delicious cross from Charles N’Zogbia just prior to half-time.

In the 71st minute, Papiss Demba Cissé gave Newcastle the lead after a cracking half-volley courtesy of a Jonás Gutiérrez cross.

Cissé already looks the part, and could be a very important signing for Alan Pardew and the Magpies going forward.

But the game of the week was surely Chelsea v Manchester United, as advertised.

Sir Alex Ferguson’s men came from 3-0 down to get a point at Stamford Bridge in one of the best Premier League games of the season.

An own goal by Jonny Evans opened the scoring for the Blues in the 36th minute.

Juan Mata netted Chelsea’s second on a brilliant volley following a peach of a cross from none other than Fernando Torres.

United found themselves 3-0 down after David Luiz headed home Chelsea’s third goal of the game in the 50th minute.

Game over? Surely not.

The Red Devils completed their comeback courtesy of two Wayne Rooney penalties (58′, 69′) and a header by super-sub Javier “El Chicharito” Hernandez (84′).

If you didn’t catch the live show, make sure you watch the highlights of this Premier League classic.

Liverpool v Tottenham Hotspur:

Third place Tottenham Hotspur will travel to Anfield to take on Liverpool on Monday night.

Surely this will be another cracking fixture. Make sure you catch the live show.

Players to Watch

Gareth Bale has been on a bit of a purple patch for Spurs, having scored three goals in his last two games.

The Wales international is definitely the man to fear if you’re Kenny Dalglish or a Reds supporter.

For Liverpool, Andy Carroll has been in fine form, scoring one goal and bagging one assist in his last two appearances for the Reds.

Can Carroll do it again?

Key Battle: Gareth Bale v Glen Johnson

Bale v Johnson looks a disastrous matchup for the home side. Trickery, pace and skill are all in favor of the Wales international. Advantage Spurs.

Prediction

Based on Liverpool’s lack of goal-poaching prowess and the Bale-Johnson matchup, I fancy Spurs to win 2-1 at Anfield.

Sorry Bacon, I’m just a bitter Liverpool supporter still having flashbacks of last years United penalty call against Liverpool in the 1st minute. p.s. Webb has given United 8 penalties in their last 9 games…coincidence?

Give it a rest! Any ref could have given those two penalties. Not 100% but givable. I’m not a United fan either, I just disagree with this harsh view of Howard Webb
