Competition: EFL Cup
Market: Sunderland win
Odds: 13/10 @ Bet 365
A side that is rebuilding in League One nowadays, Sunderland will look to carry on their impressive start to the new season when they welcome Championship Sheffield Wednesdays to The Stadium of Light on Thursday night.
Starting with the hosts, with Chris Coleman stepping down and Sunderland finally being relegated to English football third-tier, Jack Ross has taken charge in the North East and The Black Cats are enjoying a new lease of life. While they’re coming off the back of a 1-1 draw with Luton, Sunderland came past playoff contender Charlton in their opening matchup and they are now unbeaten in their last five. One man to watch for the hosts is 19-year-old striker Josh Maja. Coming through their youth ranks, he now has two in two at the start of the new year.
As for the visitors, although they may have enjoyed a late push under Jos Luhukay, Sheffield Wednesday were unable to secure a playoff position and have now endured a difficult start to the new Championship campaign. Failing to win any of their two openings matches, including shipping three against newly promoted Wigan on the opening day, Wednesday are without a win in their last four and have shipped nine goals in that time.
