Sunderland host Aston Villa at the Stadium of Light this weekend, and are desperate to get a result to boost their chances of survival in the Premier League. Both sides occupy the bottom-two places in the table, and have been in woeful form ahead of this meeting which could well make for an even spectacle.

Sunderland are favourites to pick up all three points at home, with the Black Cats having always made life difficult for their opposition in their own backyard. Sam Allardyce’s side have only conceded a single goal in their defeats at home, and have still won two and drawn one from six, so they will carry a threat.

Victory for the North-East outfit could see them narrow the deficit to safety to four points, but Aston Villa need a result much more than Sunderland. The visitors are rock bottom and 11 points adrift after 19 games. They have gone 18 games without a victory, and lost a must-win encounter to Norwich City in their last outing.

Sunderland are much stronger on home soil, while Aston Villa have found themselves run over on the road, and Betfair are giving odds of 6/4 for the Black Cats to dispatch of the Villans at the Stadium of Light as a result.
