Sport Bild has learned that Premier League basement club Sunderland and La Liga high flyers Villarreal are hot on the trail of Schalke defender Dennis Aogo.
With Sead Kolasinac deciding to stay and Abdul Baba Rahman joining the ranks, the 29-year-old is now a third choice left back at Veltins Arena and is, therefore, set to leave for greener pastures.
Aogo can also operate as a holding midfielder, but he is unlikely to see as much playing time as last term, when he made 23 Bundesliga appearances.
According to Sport Bild, Sunderland and Villarreal are locked in the battle for his services, with the player’s representatives negotiating a three-year deal for their client.
Dennis Aogo joined Schalke from Hamburg in the summer of 2013, and he went on to feature in 58 Bundesliga games.
The full-back also has 12 Germany caps to his name, but he last represented Die Mannschaft in June 2013.
