Sunderland eased to a 4-1 home victory over Hull on Saturday to move into the top six in the Premier League.

Darren Bent’s rich vein of form saw him score a brace to take his total to four for the season since his move from Spurs.

Sunderland took the lead in the first-half through a penalty by Bent. However, a battling Hull side pulled level later in the first-half as Kamil Zayatte rose to power home a header.

The hosts, though, came out raring to go in the second-half after a typically stirring half-time talk from manager Steve Bruce and went back into the lead as Andy Reid shot home after Phil Bardsley had headed on the ball.

The hosts wrapped up all three points midway through the second-half as the effervescent Bent made no mistake after being played onside by Zayatte to blast the ball past Hull ‘keeper Boaz Myhill.

Zayatte’s miserable day got worse when former team-mate Michael Turner’s header went in off him to halt any Hull dreams of a storming finish.
