Sunderland join race for Benteke

Sunderland have joined the race to sign Liverpool striker Christian Benteke, according to the Mirror.

Despite only signing for the Merseyside outfit twelve months ago the twenty-five year old has been strongly linked with a move away from Anfield, with Crystal Palace failing with an approach last month.

Everton are also keeping an eye of the Belgium international’s situation though new Black Cats manager David Moyes is keen to steal a march on his old club by securing his services.

Benteke made forty-two appearances in all competitions last season, scoring ten goals but started just fourteen of Liverpool’s Premier League games.

Most recently, the former Aston Villa man was competing at this summer’s European Championships and was part of the squad that made the quarter finals.

In total, he has been capped twenty-six times for his country, scoring for them six times.
