Sunderland are poised to beat Everton in the chase for two of Sweden’ brightest young talents: BK Hacken’s Emilio Rossi and Nikola Ladan.

Sunderland’s scouts have been carefully monitoring the duo and, with interest in the duo intensifying, they could attempt to finalise a deal early in the New Year to fend off rival suitors.

The players’ representative, Godfrey K Torto, said he is not surprised there has been widespread interest in the players.

“It is of no surprise that clubs not only in England but across Europe would be interested in the boys,” Torto said.

“I’m sure many clubs would like these young exciting players to be part of their squads. Both have had great seasons, but Emilio’s achievements have been fantastic.”

Rossi, 19, is a left-sided attacking player while 18-year-old Ladan, who has represented his country at Under-18 level, is a central midfielder.

Sunderland may be struggling in the Premier League at the moment, but manager Steve Bruce has a reputation of being able to nurture young talent, with Danny Welbeck having excelled at the club while on loan from Manchester United last season.
