Sunderland are interested in signing former Rangers and Celtic youngster Liam Burt in the summer transfer window, according to The Glasgow Evening Times. The 21-year-old former Rangers midfielder left Celtic earlier this summer, and the Scotland Under-21 international will reportedly be on trial at Sunderland in League One in England.
The Black Cats, who were in the Premier League not so long ago, have invited the Scottish midfielder to a trial and want to take a close look at him before offering him a contract. Burt has been training with Yorkshire club Barnsley, but he has accepted the offer from Sunderland to undergo a trial with them and perhaps win a deal.
Sunderland will aim to automatic promotion from League One to the Championship at the end of the 2020-21 campaign. The Black Cats have been quite busy in the summer transfer window so far, having signed Aiden O’Brien, Bailey Wright, Morgan Feeney and Danny Graham among other players.
