Sunderland’s off-season signing spree continued on Friday with the capturing of midfielder David Vaughan from Blackpool.

The 28-year-old made 35 English Premier League appearances for Ian Holloway’s side last term, and has signed a three-year deal with Sunderland.

Sunderland boss Steve Bruce said he was thrilled with Vaughan’s decision to choose the Stadium of Light as his new home.

“David was excellent throughout last season, including both games against us, so it’s only natural that he caught the attention of a number of top clubs,” Bruce said.

“We’re delighted that he sees his future at Sunderland. His experience, grit and energy in midfield will be valuable assets to us and we’re now looking forward to him joining up with the squad for pre-season training.”

Vaughan becomes Sunderland’s ninth permanent signing of the transfer period, joining Keiren Westwood, Sebastian Larsson, Ji Dong-Won, Craig Gardner, Connor Wickham, Wes Brown, John O’Shea and Ahmed Elmohamady.
