Sunderland midfielder Stephane Sessegnon has moved to reject rumours that he will be leaving the Stadium of Light in the near future.
The Benin international joined the Black Cats a year ago from Paris Saint-Germain and has since become somewhat of a cult hero at the Stadium of Light.
After the slow start to his career at Sunderland, the 27-year-old exploded this season and is now constantly being linked with clubs like Manchester City and Tottenham.
The player claims that he is not moved by interest from bigger clubs, although he admits that any offers would be reviewed at the end of the season.
“Interest from some bigger English clubs? I don’t think about that so far,” Sessegnon told L’Equipe.
“Above all I am thinking to score and assist. We will talk about my future again at the end of the season.”
Sessegnon didn’t have such an easy start to his career in England, but he finally feels settled and that is one of the reasons for his uptrend in form.
“Indeed when I came it was not that easy. For six months I was down, and I was alone. My wife and kids remained in Paris.
“Then, things have changed. I have adapted to English way of life and the football spirit here. I am relaxed and more serene.”
The cultured playmaker is enjoying the freedom given to him by new boss Martin O’Neill.
“Martin O’Neill? Maybe I have more attacking freedom now. I am a player who likes to touch the ball, and not remaining in a fixed position suits me well.”
Sessegnon has been absolutely brilliant this season, scoring 6 goals and creating as many assists in 24 Premier League games.
