Sunderland midfielder Jack Colback is eyeing an upset when Manchester City travel to the Stadium of Light on New Year’s Day.
Colback scored in the recent draw with Everton and has been enjoying a good run in the side under new manager Martin O’Neill, and believes his team-mates can get a result against Roberto Mancini’s league leaders.
“It’s a tough one, obviously, but we’ll come into the game with a lot of confidence,” Colback told the club’s official website.
“I’m sure the place will be buzzing again. There’s no reason why we can’t get something if we play well and keep things solid at the back.”
“It’s a really good game to kick off 2012. City have a lot of class in their team, which they’ve shown by going to places like Old Trafford and winning.”
“They’re very strong, but we’re confident and hopefully we can cause them a few problems.”
Since O’Neill joined the club, Sunderland have pulled away from the relegation zone and Colback has praised the impact of the former Aston Villa manager.
“We’ll take heart from our recent performances, which have improved,” he said.
“Unfortunately we couldn’t get the win against Everton but City aren’t unbeatable. We’ll go into it focusing on ourselves.”
