Competition: Premier League
Market: Gus Poyet next manager to exit post
Odds: 1/4 @ William Hill
Sunderland manager Gus Poyet finds himself on the brink with the Black Cats following a humiliating 4-0 defeat at the hands of fellow relegation-threatened Aston Villa. Supporters were seen leaving the ground at half-time, and some confronted the Uruguayan requesting his immediate exit. His position appears untenable with the club, with so many fans now having turned, as they feel Sunderland could genuinely be relegated from the Premier League.
With Burnley enjoying a resurgence at the business end of the campaign, Sunderland are the team they will replace in the table if the North-East club fail to match or better the former’s results. But Poyet may not be in charge to see the season out. In 2013/14, he went on an incredible run of form that saw them beating Chelsea, Cardiff, Manchester United and West Bromwich Albion in a row at the end of the campaign to avoid relegation against all odds.
Sunderland are currently 17th in the table, with 26 points from 29 games. They are winless in their last six games, and have only picked up four wins. As a result, William Hill are giving odds of ¼ for Gus Poyet to be the next manager to exit his post, as the Black Cats hierarchy could well act now if they feel Sunderland’s Premier League status is at risk.
