There is a strange feeling in football that West Ham United as a club have almost already accepted relegation.
Their owners have already admitted that they are making provisions for life without their England internationals.
Star
One of those England players is Football Writers’ Player of the Year Scott Parker.
The midfielder has been the undoubted star of the show at the Boleyn Ground in a side that has struggled for any sort of form this campaign.
In fact without him this season they would probably face an even bigger mountain to climb to keep their Premier League status.
Guarantees
Parker has already admitted that he can’t offer any guarantees about where his future lies. He told Sky Sports News: “My main focus is getting fit and trying to win the two remaining games, and fingers crossed the other results go our way and we stay up,”
“ Obviously if we do go down things change, everything changes, but whatever comes of that, comes of that. But my main focus is to try and win matches for West Ham.”
Talking about his England career he continued by saying: “Not many England players play in the Championship, so it would be in jeopardy,”
Expected
If as expected the Hammers are relegated to the Championship then I don’t think many will expect the 30 year-old to stay with the club. His profile has risen in the last year and he’s unlikely to be happy plying his trade in England’s second tier.
Destination
This summer there is likely to be a queue of Premier League teams looking to sign the England international. This season has shown him to be a player capable of grabbing a game by the scruff of the neck.
This quality is one that a lot of Premier League sides have been missing this season. The list of admirers is said to contain the likes of Tottenham and Liverpool. He would be a great signing for any Premier League club.
Strong
Tottenham’s strongest area of the pitch is probably the midfield. They seem to collect players that can play in the middle of the park. However Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp is a big fan of Parker, so could make some room for the ex-Chelsea star by selling some of his current crop of midfielders.
Rebuild
With Kenny Dalglish now confirmed as full-time boss of Liverpool I’m sure he is drawing up a list of potential transfers. Dalglish is keen on promoting youngsters but Parker’s endeavour and drive would definitely add something to the Reds midfield.
And if reports are to be believed then the Liverpool boss will be given a hefty transfer kitty this summer to bring success back to Anfield. Signing Scott Park Parker wouldn’t be a bad way to spend some of that money.
Point
Scott Parker was considered a flop at Chelsea because he couldn’t break into the first team on a regular basis. He has since gone on and done well at Newcastle and currently with the Hammers.
If he does sign for a big club at the top of the Premier League he may feel it’s a chance to make his critics eat their words.
Unlikely
Last season Scott Parker managed to help keep West Ham in the Premier League. This season however I don’t think there will be a happy ending to the campaign for the Hammers. If results go against them today the club will be heading for the Championship.
West Ham simply must win their game at Wigan today. I suspect that whatever happens in the next few weeks though that Scotty Parker won’t be with the Hammers for much longer.
Where will Scott Parker be playing his football next season?
