(GSM) – David Beckham’s surgeon, Dr Sakari Orava, has confirmed that he will miss the World Cup this summer.

Beckham suffered a ruptured Achilles tendon injury in Milan’s 1-0 win over Chievo at the San Siro on Sunday.

The 34-year-old midfielder is due to visit Orava in Finland this morning, but the prognosis isn’t good with Beckham expected to spend five or six months on the sidelines.

“It will take around three months to start kicking and playing again,” Orava said.

“It will perhaps take another month on top of that for him to kick with full power and to have good performances,” he concluded.

Earlier today, England coach Fabio Capello told La Gazzetta dello Sport that he had spoken to Beckham.

“I spoke with him after the game on Sunday night to offer my support, as did Franco Baldini,” said Capello. “David is a great professional and has worked very hard to be ready for the World Cup, so missing it will be a big blow.

“I am very sad for David that he has suffered this injury.”

Beckham joined Milan on a six-month loan from Los Angeles Galaxy for the second time in his career in January.

He did it on Capello’s recommendation to prove that he is still capable of playing at the highest level.

Beckham impressed in both spells, so much so that Milan Vice-President Adriano Galliani said he would like to have him back next season.
