“Suspicious vehicle” causes Spurs-Chelsea delay

The start of an English Premier League match between Tottenham and Chelsea on Saturday was delayed after a “suspicious vehicle” was discovered in the vicinity of White Hart Lane stadium.

Police quickly established that the vehicle did not prevent any threat but the alert delayed many supporters’ access to the stadium, causing the 1500 GMT kick-off to be put back by 30 minutes.

Concern over security at all sporting events has mounted in the wake of the March 3 terrorist attack on Sri Lanka’s cricket team in Lahore, Pakistan.
