Indonesia went a step closer to booking their spot in the Suzuki Cup Final with a 1-0 win over the Philippines on Thursday.
In the first-leg semi-final of the Asian Football Federation Suzuki Cup, Christian Gonzales’ 32nd minute strike was enough to give Indonesia the victory.
The Philippines were forced to play their home leg in Jakarta because their nominated stadium failed to meet AFF standards, with a massive crowd of 72,000 was on hand at the the game.
Indonesia were expected to win comfortably but were given a real challenge by their unfancied opponents, who could have easily left with a draw.
The loss was the Philippines’ first at the tournament, after they claimed one win and two draws in the group stage.
