In this year’s edition of the Legends match, an annual charity game organized by Liverpool at Anfield, the former Reds, including the likes of Steven Gerrard, Fernando Torres, Sami Hyypia, Jerzy Dudek, Sander Westerveld, Maxi Rodriguez, Dirk Kuyt and many others, faced legendary Ajax players like Edgar Davids, Ronald De Boer, Aron Winter, Michael Krohn-Dehli, Richard Witchge,…
Ryan Babel and Jari Litmanen, of course, played for both teams at different stages of the game, having represented both during their respective careers.
But one of the most interesting things about this match was Sven-Goran Eriksson sitting in the home dugout, fulfilling a life-long dream of managing Liverpool, a few months after he revealed to the public that he’d been given a very short time to live due to suffering from terminal cancer.
Not that it matters, but Liverpool legends won the game by 4-2, having come back from 0-2 down at halftime.
It was undoubtedly a great honor for both Eriksson and current Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp, to meet before the game.
