The doom and gloom surrounding relegation-threatened Swansea City could subside this weekend as the club are nearing the appointment of a new manager, and have a potentially winnable fixture that could see them take a big step towards safety if other results go their way.
Swansea host an out-of-form and travel-sick Bournemouth side at the Liberty Stadium on Saturday afternoon, in a game that could swing the way of the hosts. Their rivals at the bottom have games they could slip up in which could further boost City’s chances of narrowing the deficit to safety.
Swansea strong at home, Bournemouth struggling away
Swansea City’s home form in recent weeks has kept their heads above water in the Premier League. They lost heavy to West Ham United at the Liberty Stadium but earned two big home wins to Crystal Palace and Sunderland to ensure they weren’t already dead and buried in the bottom-three. Contrast that to the woeful away form of Bournemouth of late and City can’t be ruled out of getting a result.
Eddie Howe’s Bournemouth side may be seven places and nine points better off than their opponents in the Premier League table, but the Cherries have an identical return as the Swans from their last six games and have a woeful away record which could prove costly. Bournemouth have lost four of their last five games on the road, conceding more than two goals per game on average and could come unstuck as a result.
Relegation rivals could hand Swansea the initiative in the survival race
Crystal Palace are the side one place above the drop zone in the Premier League, two points clear of the nearest team in the bottom-three. They travel to the Emirates Stadium to face Arsenal on Sunday and are expected to lose. Sunderland, 18th in the league table, travel to face Burnley at Turf Moor. With Sunderland having lost five of their last six away games while Burnley boast four home wins in five, another relegation rivals for Swansea could slip up.
Swansea City still have to do their job, however, and Bournemouth certainly won’t lie down even with their poor form ahead of the meeting. But a response is expected from City after they parted company with their manager and are close to appointing Bob Bradley’s replacement. Swansea City are 19/10 to win against AFC Bournemouth on Saturday afternoon.
